2008 Family Caregivers Resource Guide

Just in time for National Caregiver’s Month this November, the 2008 City of Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Family Caregivers Resource Guide is available. This convenient, digest-sized book is chock-full of information to connect caregivers and frail elders to the resources they need.

For the second year, Prime Time Monthly News published this extensive resource, this time teaming up with the New Mexico Association for Continuity of Care in collecting information.

This guide offers an intuitive, easy-to-read directory of public, private and non-profit agencies who provide services ranging from respite care to grocery delivery, plus tips for managing the care of both frail elders and their caregivers.

“Last year we discovered just how valuable having a one-stop guide was to our caregivers and this year’s new and improved version is sure to be another big hit,” said Ellen Costilla, director of the Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs’ Senior Information Program. “The digest size is more user-friendly and the content is even more complete. We hope that our elders and their caregivers find this a valuable tool when they have questions on where to turn for the help they need.”

Caregivers are quickly emerging as the backbone of our society. The AARP valued the work of unpaid family caregiver services in 2006 at $350 billion, as much as the total spending for the Medicare program in 2005.

Copies of the 2008 Family Caregivers Resource Guide are available at local senior centers, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Hastings, Frontier Restaurant, Wild Oats grocery stores and many other locations throughout the city in November. After that, call Prime Time at 880- 0470 to pick up more copies.
